* All autographs inserted into packs have a "CERTIFIED AUTOGRAPHED ISSUED" stamp on the front.
* Jerry Koosman did NOT sign any of his 1968 Rookie card. Some dual signed Koosman/Ryan cards have emerged; however, either these were the regular unautographed insert (which does not have the authentication stamp on the front), or the autographed Ryan card, with Koosman added on at a later date. This does NOT necessarily mean these Koosman/Ryan autographs are inauthentic; it's just that they aren't certified by Topps.

Description
1999 Topps is a 462-card set released in two series of 242 and 220 cards. To commemorate Mark McGwire's 1998 season, card #220 was issued in 70 different variations (one for each home run) to honor his record setting season. Cumulatively, the production of #220 is equal to any other base set card; individualy, each card was produced in 1/70th the supply of the other base cards. In Series Two, a similar card of Sammy Sosa (#461) was issued in 66 different varities. A base sets is considered complete with any one of the 70 McGwire and 66 Sosa variations.
Card number 7 was not issued as Topps continues to honor the memory of Mickey Mantle. The Christmas factory set contains one Nolan Ryan finest reprint card as an added bonus, while the hobby and retail factory sets just contained the regular sets in a factory box.
Please note that the backs of cards from factory sets are printed in the opposite direction compared to cards that came in packs.
Distribution
Hobby: 36 packs per box, 11 cards per pack (MSRP: $1.29).
Retail: 20 packs per box.
Jumbo: 10 packs per box, 40 cards per pack (MSRP: $5). HTA store exclusive.
Factory sets: A complete 462-card set, a 241-card retail Series 1 set (MSRP $19.99) and a 221-card retail Series 2 set (MSRP $19.99) were distributed.

Sammy Sosa HR Parade
Similar to the Mark McGwire card in Series One, to commemorate Sammy Sosa's 1998 season, card #461 was issued in 66 different variations (one for each home run) to honor his 1998 season. Cumulatively, the production of #461 is equal to any other base set card; individually, each card was produced in 1/66th the supply of the other base cards. A set is considered complete with only one.
For brevity's sake, we are not listed all 66 cards.

Parallels
MVP
MVP is a 416-card partial-parallel to the regular Topps set. Cards 200-242 (Draft Picks and Prospect, checklists, and the Mark McGwire Home Run card) was not included in the Series One set. The Draft Picks and Prospects were included in Series Two, but still, neither the checklists nor the Sammy Sosa Home Run Card is included.
The front of the card features the same photo as the basic issue card but is adorned with a bold gold foil MVP Promotion logo. The back features contest guidelines for the Topps MVP Promotion. Note that some MVP Promotion cards did not feature the gold foil MVP Promotion stamp on the front - specifically, some of the Strikeout King and All-Star subsets and the S2 Draft Picks and Prospects subsets are missing the stamp.
If the featured player was awarded player of the week status (as determined by Topps) his card was then redeemable at season's end for a special set of all the weekly winners. Only 100 of each MVP Promotion card was produced. The exchange deadline to redeem winning cards was December 31st, 1999. Winning prize cards were mailed out between February 15th, 2000 and April 30th, 2000.
The winning cards were the following numbers (which correspond to the regular Topps set): 35, 52. 70, 96, 101, 125, 127, 139, 159, 198, 248, 265, 290, 292, 300, 315, 340, 346, 350, 352, 355, 360, 365, 416, and 418. Since Topps destroyed these Winner exchange cards once they received them, they're in noticeably shorter supply than other cards from this set. Despite this fact, no noticeable premiums in secondary trading levels have been detected for these cards

Following in the footsteps of Mickey Mantle (1996 Topps), Willie Mays (1997 Topps), and Roberto Clemente (1998 Topps), Topps reprinted all 27 of Nolan Ryan's Topps cards as an insert in 1999 Topps. The 14 odd numbered cards were inserted into Series One packs, while the 13 even numbered ones were in Series Two.

Nolan Ryan Reprint Autographs
This set is an autographed parallel of the Nolan Ryan Reprint insert (see above). For brevity's sake, the checklist is listed above. The 14 odd-numbered cards were inserted into Series One Hobby and HTA packs, while the 13 even numbered cards were in Series Two Hobby and HTA packs
NOTES
- All autographs inserted into packs have a "CERTIFIED AUTOGRAPHED ISSUED" stamp on the front.
- Jerry Koosman did NOT sign any of his 1968 Rookie card.
