1989 Donruss The Rookies is a 56-card set distributed exclusively in factory set form in small, emerald green, cellophane-wrapped boxes through hobby dealers. The cards are almost identical in design to regular 1989 Donruss except for the green borders. Rookie Cards in this set include Jim Abbott, Steve Finley, Joe Girardi, Kenny Rogers and Deion Sanders.
Ken Griffey, Jr., Gary Shefffield and Randy Johnson, whose rookie cards appeared in 1989 Donruss, are also featured in the set.
