Description

1983 Donruss is a 660-card set. The design is, literally, a mirror image of the previous year's set with a glove replacing a ball. The first 26 cards make up the Diamond Kings subset, all featuring original artwork from Dick Perez. Each pack contained three pieces of a Ty Cobb puzzle.

Rookies include Wade Boggs, Tony Gwynn, and Ryne Sandberg.

'83 Donruss also marked the debut of the "Rated Rookies." There are six such players scattered throughout the set, and are denoted on the reverse side.

Distribution

Wax: 36 packs per box, fifteen cards plus three Ty Cobb puzzle pieces per pack (MSRP: $0.30).

Triple Wax Racks: Three, fifteen-card wax packs per pack.

Fun Packs: Thirteen, fifteen-card packs plus twelve various non-sport packs per bag (MSRP: $1.29).

In order to get around the MLB licensing requirement that all baseball cards be tied with "something," Donruss created a 63-piece jigsaw puzzle of Ty Cobb. Each wax pack contained one, three-piece, panel; and factory sets had the full set of 21 panels.
