Parallels

All 180 base cards are available in a Player's Private Issue (PPI) parallel. Each PPI is serial-numbered to 999 copies, although only 599 of each card exist. The first 100 serial-numbered cards (1-100) were set aside and given to each player as a gift from Topps with the remaining 499 sets randomly inserted in packs.

According to a press release issued by Topps at the end of 1996, due to disappointing sales, production on the Gallery product as a whole was cut and 400 PPI sets were not inserted into packs. These cards would be destroyed. However, PPI's serial numbered above 599 do exist, and these cards were inserted into packs.

Topps did produce 999 copies of each PPI, set aside the first 100 serial-numbered copies for the players, then shuffled up cards serial-numbered 101-999 and inserted 499 of those at random into packs. While this completely defeats the purpose of serial-numbering, there is little reason to not believe that Topps did in fact destroy the remaining 40 percent of the PPI's, as pre-sales on this product were not particularly all that strong.
