Set of the Month
2004 Upper Deck Vintage is a 500-card set release in two series. The first 450 cards were issued as part of the Vintage series on February 02, 2004. The final 150 cards in the Vintage series (cards #301-#450) are short-printed and seeded into packs at varying levels. The last 50 cards in the set (cards #451-#500) are known as the Update Series and were distributed exclusively as a factory set inside Hobby boxes of 2004 Upper Deck Series Two. Each Series Two Hobby box came with an unmarked and shrink-wrapped Update Set box from one of four possible 2004 Upper Deck early-season products: Vintage, Reflections, Play Ball, and SP Game Used Patch. Collectors had to break the shrink wrap to figure out which set they received; however, about two-thirds of the sets were Vintage. Just Released
2019 Topps Heritage is a 500-card set released February 27th, 2018. The last 100 cards are short-printed. In keeping with the brand's aesthetic, the design is based on the 1970 Topps set. Each Hobby box will, as usual, yield a relic, an autograph or an autographed relic. 2019 Topps Series One is a 350-card set released January 30th -- although packs began showing up at mass market retail outlets a week earlier. This year's flagship has as its theme a celebration of Professional Baseball's 150th Anniversary, with Anniversary-themed inserts and parallels serial-numbered to 150 copies. A big change to the product are the sheer number of non-parallel, non-"hit based," inserts. While, in recent years, Topps Baseball has had a massive number of inserts, for 2019 both the size of most insert sets and the insertion ratios have been greatly increased. Also notable is a reduction in the size of the standard Hobby waxbox from 36 packs to 24 -- although the number of cards in each Hobby pack was enlarged from ten to fourteen. 2018 Bowman's Best was released December 19th, 2018, and was the final product released by Topps for the year. The base set consists of 70 cards supplemented by a 29-card "Top Prospects" subset. Each pack will yield one Refractor parallel, and each 12-pack Hobby box will have four autographs. 2018 Bowman Draft is a 200-card set released December 14th -- delayed about a week. Each Hobby only Jumbo will contain three autographs, while Super Jumbo boxes will yield five. 2018 Topps Transcendent was released December 14th. Only 83 sets were produced. Each factory set, which is packaged in a wooden case contains the following:
2018 Panini Elite Extra Edition was released December 12th. As usual, the product focuses on recent draft picks and prospects, and can be seen as Panini's answer to Bowman Draft. Each base card is serial-numbered to 999 copies. Each five-pack Hobby box will yield two serial-numbered parallels, two game-used memorabilia cards, and eight autographs. 2018 Topps Dynasty was released December 7th. As usual, each box will contain an encased autographed patch card serial-numbered to ten or fewer. 2018 Triple Threads is a 100-card set released November 7th -- about a month-and-a-half later than usual. Each seven-card Hobby pack will contain three base cards, two parallels, one triple Relic card serial-numbered to 36 copies or fewer, and an autograph or autographed relic serial-numbered to 99 copies or fewer. 2018 Panini Flawless is an 85-card set released October 31st. Each ten-card box will yield one jewel-encrusted base card or parallel, two game-used cards, and seven autographs. 2018 Topps High Tek was released on October 31, 2018. As usual, all cards are printed on acetate with multiple background pattern parallels. Each 40-card box will contain two autographs and four numbered base/insert cards. 2018 Topps Update was released October 22nd. 2018 Topps Five Star was released October 17th. All cards are autographed, and each box will contain two. 2018 Topps Gold Label is a 300-card set released October 12th. As with the Gold Label sets of the late-90s, the set features 100 different players on three different "Class" cards: 1, 2, and 3. Unfortunately, the holo-foil plastic cardstock the brand was known for in the 90s was not used -- regular paper stock was used instead. Each box will yield one Framed Autograph. New for 2018 are Relics and Framed Autographed Relics. 2018 Panini Contenders Draft Picks is a 50-card set focusing on prospects and draft picks, released October 5th. Most players are depicted in their college uniforms, and is licensed by The Collegiate Licensing Company. The product does NOT have any active Major League players and as such, is not licensed by the MLB Players Association (even though Panini does have an MLBPA license). Each pack contains an autograph. 2018 National Treasures was released by Panini September 26th. As usual, every card is autographed and/or a memorabilia card serial-numbered to 99 copies or fewer. Each eight-card box will contain one booklet card. 2018 Topps Heritage Minor League is a 220-card set released September 26th -- a month earlier than last year. Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield one relic and one autograph. |
