1998 SP Authentic

Description

1998 SP Authentic is a 198-card set released by Upper Deck in the summer of 1998. The brand was renamed from "SP" due to the fact that, for the first time, each Hobby box yielded an authentic on-card autograph.

24 packs per box, five cards per pack (MSRP: $4.98). Hobby only.

Trade Card

These 15 redemption cards entitled the bearer to receive various Upper Deck Authenticated items. Each card expired August 1st, 1999. Five cards were good for a UDA autographed baseball, six were for an oversized game-used jersey card (see below for checklist). The other four cards feature various Ken Griffey, Jr. items including: an oversized card commemorating his 300th career home run; a life-sized cardboard standee; an autographed Seattle Mariners jersey; and an autographed fielder's glove.

Griffey 300th HR Redemption

This special card, which measures 5" X 7", commemorates Ken Griffey, Jr's. 300th career home run, and was one of the prizes available as part of the Trade Card redemption program (see above). It is the only card from in the Trade Card set that does not feature either an autograph or a piece of game-used memorabilia. Only 1000 Trade Cards were inserted into packs, however, this particular card is not serial-numbered.
