1992 Donruss The Rookies
Description
After six years of issuing "The Rookies" as a 56-card boxed set, 1992 Donruss The Rookies was expanded to 132-cards and distributed exclusively in packs. The card design is the same as the 1992 Donruss regular issue except that the two-tone blue color bars have been replaced by green. The set is arranged in alphabetical order and numbered on the back.
Prominent rookie cards in this set include Jeff Kent, Manny Ramirez, Matt Stairs, Tim Wakefield and Eric Young. In addition, an early card of Pedro Martinez is featured. The rookie selection was hindered by Donruss' decision to pull 20 players from the base set and include them in the "Phenoms" insert set -- one of the 20 was Mike Piazza. Piazza's Phenoms insert is one of only three cards issued of him in 1992, and the only one NOT a "true" rookie.
This would be the last Donruss The Rookies set issued until Donruss-Playoff revived the set in 2001.

Phenoms
Phenoms is a 20-card set featuring Donruss' picks of the very best rookies and young prospects. The first twelve cards were randomly inserted into 1992 Donruss The Rookies 12-card packs; while the last eight were inserted one per 1992 Donruss Rookies 30-card jumbo pack.
One of only three MLB-licensed cards of Mike Piazza issued in 1992 is featured within this set. However of the three (Bowman and Fleer Update), this is the only one that is not a "true" rookie card.
