2020 Topps Sapphire Chrome Update

From BaseballCardPedia.com

Description

2020 Topps Sapphire Chrome Update was released January 27th, 2021 -- with members of Topps' 582 Montgomery Club getting access a day earlier. Unlike the Topps Chrome Update set, the Sapphire Chrome edition is a full parallel of the 300-card 2020 Topps Update set. Each eight-pack box will yield one Refractor parallel serial-numbered to 45 copies or fewer and one autograph.

This was the first Sapphire Chrome set to be made available at retail with a limited number of boxes available at Target stores and target.com. In addition, a limited number of boxes were also distributed to Hobby stores.

Distribution

Eight packs per box, four cards per pack (MSRP: $150)

Checklist

Base Set

See 2020 Topps Update for checklist.

Parallels

All 300 base cards are also available in the following parallels.

  • Green Refractor (serial-numbered to 45 copies)
  • Orange Refractor (serial-numbered to 25 copies)
  • Purple Refractor (serial-numbered to ten)
  • Red Refractor (serial-numbered to five)
  • SuperFractor (one-of-one)

NOTE: It was believed that those players who appeared in the previously released, retail-only, 2020 Topps Chrome Update set, (which has its own one-of-one SuperFractor parallel) would NOT have a SuperFractor in the Sapphire Chrome Update set, but would have a one-of-one Padparadascha Refractor parallel instead (see below). It appears that the Padparadascha-only players (99 in all) had a second SuperFractor issued in packs of Sapphire Chrome Update. (One collector acquired BOTH the Chrome Update AND the Sapphire Chrome Update SuperFractors of Padres rookie Trent Grisham. The two cards are indistinguishable from each other with the only differences being the card's sequential number and the legalese on the back. See links below.)
