1992 Donruss
Description
For 12th consecutive year Donruss released a regular issue set. The set contained 784 cards – their largest set to date - released in two series of 396 and 388 cards, respectively.
Capitalizing on the new hobby trend of insert cards popularized by Upper Deck’s Heroes insert set, Donruss made their traditional subset “Diamond Kings” an insert set. Touted as randomly inserted the cards were seeded at about 4 per box.
Also for the first time Donruss changed the design on the back of their card. Instead of just text featuring the past 5 years of statistics and a career highlight summary - a color headshot was included. Again, this decision was made based on what Upper Deck was doing in the prior years.
Also following in Upper Deck's footsteps, for the first time cards came packaged in tamper-proof fin-sealed foil wrappers. 1992 was also the final year Donruss issued a factory set and the final year Donruss was required to issue something other than cards in their packs. All Series One packs contained three pieces of a 63-piece Rod Carew puzzle, but no puzzle pieces were included in Series Two packs.

Jumbo: 24 packs per box, 27 cards per pack (MSRP: $1.98).

Reviews
In the December 1992 issue of Beckett Baseball Card Monthly. Chuck Roethel using a letter measurement scale graded the set "B". The set was featured in the “Card Critic” column titled “Head of the Class”. Mr. Roethel raved "the quality-stock and attractive blue color scheme on the front...proved to me that Donruss had returned in full force".

Diamond Kings
The 1992 edition of the Donruss Diamond Kings were randomly inserted in 1992 Donruss Series One (cards 1-13 and the checklist only) and in 1992 Donruss Series Two packs (cards 14-26). The decision at the time to transform the popular Diamond King subset into an insert set created notable groups of supporters and dissenters. As usual, the set features artwork from Dick Perez. The words "Donruss Diamond Kings" are superimposed at the card top in a gold-trimmed blue and black banner, with the player's name in a similarly designed black stripe at the card bottom.
A very limited amount of 5" X 7" cards were produced. These issues were never formally released but these cards were intended to be premiums in retail products.

For the second straight year, Donruss created a limited (for 1992) series of serial-numbered insert cards. With the exception of the Rickey Henderson "Legend" card (with is serial-numbered to 7500 copies), each card is numbered to 10,000 copies, and is sequentially numbered as an extension of the 1991 set.
Although the odds were not fully disclosed it has been estimated that the chances of pulling an Elite insert were approximately 1:55 waxboxes.
