Set of the Month

2012 Topps Heritage is a 600 card set released in two series. The first 500 cards (#1-#500; with the final 75, short-printed) were issued as part of the regular Heritage product the week of March 14, 2012. In its 12th year, 2012 Heritage is based on the "dual-photo" design of the 1963 Topps set.

The final 100 cards (#576-#675) are part of the "Heritage High Number" set, which was released exclusively to Topps' e-commerce website the week of November 6th, 2012. Only 1000 High Number factory sets were produced.

Cards #501-#575 do not exist.

Each 24-pack Hobby should yield one autograph or Relic card, one over-sized box topper, eight short-printed base cards, and nine inserts. Each High Number factory set will include one on-card autograph.

2021 Bowman is a 100-card set, supplemented by a 150-card Prospects set, tentatively scheduled for release April 28th. Each Hobby box will yield one autograph, 19 inserts, and one Atomic Refractor. Hobby Jumbo boxes will contain three autographs.

2021 Topps Tribute was released April 7th. As usual, each three-card pack will include either an autograph or a Relic with half of packs yielding a Relic and half either an autograph or an autographed Relic. Two of the Relics in each Hobby box will be multi-swatch.

2021 Topps Definitive Collection was released March 31st, about a month earlier than last year. An all "hit" product, each eight-card box will yield six on-card autographs and two Relics.

2021 Topps Heritage is a 500-card set released February 26th, the last 100 cards are short-printed. In keeping with the brand's aesthetic, the design is based on the 1972 Topps set. Each Hobby box will, as usual, yield a relic, an autograph or an autographed relic.

2021 Topps Opening Day was released March 19th. As usual, the base set is a rehash of 220 cards from the Topps flagship. Each pack will yield one insert -- which are original to the product.

2021 Topps Inception is a 100-card set released exclusively to Hobby outlets on March 17th. Each seven-card box will contain four base cards, two parallels, and an autograph.

2021 Donruss is a 264-card set released by Panini America on March 12th. Each Hobby box will yield three autographs/game-used cards.

2021 Topps is a 660-card set released in two equal series of 330 cards -- 40 cards smaller than the previous year's set. Series One was issued the week of February 10th. 2021 marks the brand's 70th Anniversary, and just like in 2001 and 2011, there are plenty of 70th Anniversary tie-ins. Also, for the first time since 2015, the base set has a border.

As usual, each 24-pack Hobby box will yield either an autograph or a Relic card while Hobby-exclusive jumbo boxes will yield an autograph, a game-used Relic, and a manufactured "relic."

It is believed that, based on the stated insertion ratios, the production of Series One retail packs is nearly double that of 2020.

2020 Panini Elite Extra Edition was released January 6th, 2021. As usual, the product focuses on recent draft picks and prospects, and can be seen as Panini's answer to Bowman Draft.

Each base card is serial-numbered to 999 copies. Each five-pack Hobby box will yield two game-used memorabilia cards and eight autographs. FOr the first time in years, a stripped-down version is being released for the retail market.

2020 Bowman's Best was released December 23rd and consists of a 70-card base set supplemented by a 30-card "Top Prospects" subset. Each pack will yield one Refractor parallel, and each 12-pack Hobby box will have four autographs, nine inserts, and an Atomic Refractor.

2020 Bowman Draft is a 200-card set released December 7th. Each Hobby only Jumbo will contain three autographs, 24 Refractors, a box topper, and eleven inserts, while Super Jumbo boxes will yield five signatures and 40 Refractors.

2020 Stadium Club Chrome is a 400-card set released December 9th and is the first Stadium Club Chrome set in 20 years. The base set is a full 300-card parallel of the 2020 Stadium Club set with an additional 100 cards tacked on. Of course, the regular Stadium Club release already had a 90-card Chrome partial-parallel, so, to differentiate, these 90 cards have different photographs.

Each seven card pack will yield an insert or a Refractor parallel. Each 14-pack Hobby box will come with an autograph.

2020 Panini Prizm Draft Picks was released December 7th. It is a 164-card set of players primarily selected in the 2020 MLB Draft. Since Panini does not have an MLB Properties license, all players are depicted in either their high school or college uniform.

Each pack will contain five base cards, two Prizm parallels, and one autograph.

2020 Panini Flawless is an 51-card set released December 4th. Each ten-card box will yield one jewel-encrusted base card or parallel serial-numbered to 20 copies or fewer, two game-used cards, and seven autographs.

2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Chrome is a chromium-stock partial-parallel of the first 300 cards in the 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter set, released December 4th. Just like the regular A&G product, each pack contains one mini-sized parallel.

2020 Topps Chrome Black is a 100-card set released November 25th. Despite the name, Chrome Black features an original design and is not a parallel brand.

Each four-card box will yield two base cards, one Refractor parallel serial-numbered to 199 copies or fewer, and one autograph.

We estimate that 45,400 boxes were produced and that each base card is limited, but not serial-numbered, to 230 copies.

2020 Topps Update is a 300-card set released November 6th. Because of the abbreviated season, and the cancellation of the 2020 All-Star Game, this year's Update set has undergone a few changes.

In the base set, the rosters of that year's All-Star Game -- which has been a staple of the Update base set since it went to this format in the mid-2000s -- have been replaced with All-Star Game highlights and previous Home Run Derby winners. And due to the lack of rookie cards (as the MLBPA is holding back those players who made their Major League debut in 2020, for the 2021 sets), an Active Leaders subset was added to pad-out the checklist. Also, a number of players who did not actually play in 2020 (mostly those players who chose to opt-out of the 2020 season for COVID-19 reasons) were included.

On the insert side, a 30-card Prospects set includes some of the first cards of non-MLB players in a Topps-branded product since the establishment of the current MLB "rookie card" guidelines in 2006 -- although it should be noted that many of the players did, in fact, make their Major League debut in 2020, but are having their rookie cards held back by the MLBPA for 2021.

2020 Topps Dynasty was released November 4th. As usual, each box will contain an encased autographed patch card serial-numbered to ten or fewer.
