Beckett Publications was Founded in 1984, By Dr. James Beckett when he saw the need for a organized standard for the cataloging and pricing of Baseball cards. In 1990 he carried this concept over to Football and Basketball with Hockey following suit shortly after. Beckett now offers online price guides for the following Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Racing, Golf, Kenner Starting Lineup, Diecast, Pokemon, and Dragonball.

Beckett launched grading services in 2000 called Beckett Grading Services or BGS. The following year (2001) they launched two more graded services called Beckett Vintage Grading and Graded Card Reviews. The vintage grading service is also known by its acronym BVG. In late December of 2001 they launched the controversial Beckett Collectors Club Grading or BCCG. It was intended as a complement for their existing grading products. Beckett intended BCCG for the non traditional consumer who would find the lower price point appealing.

Beckett Publications now goes by the name Beckett Media. In January 2005, Apprise Media purchased Beckett Media for a reported $20,000,000 million.
