Description

2002 Upper Deck Prospect Premieres is a 109-card set released in November, 2002. Like the previous year's set, it was designed to compete with Topps' Bowman brands, and features NO current Major League players. As a result, this product is NOT licensed by the MLB Players Association and none of the cards are considered "true" rookie cards -- although the set is licensed by MLB and the players are depicted in their Major League uniforms.

Cards number 61 through 85 feature game-worn jersey swatches while cards 86-97 feature player's autographs. Cards 98-109 feature tribute cards to recently retired superstars Cal Ripken, Jr. and Mark McGwire along with Yankee great Joe DiMaggio.

Card #17 erroneously packed out with the wrong photo. A corrected version of the card was made available to collectors a few months after the product went live via a mail exchange program directly from Upper Deck.

Unlike the 2001 version, the set features key non-rookie "rookies" of Jon Lester, Curtis Granderson Nick Swisher, Joe Mauer, Prince Fielder, Zack Greinke, and B.J. Upton.

Each 18-pack Hobby box should yield one base set jersey card and one base set autograph.
