Set of the Month
2002 Donruss Originals is a 425-card set that paid tribute to Donruss sets of the 80s. The base set featured cards done in the styles of the 1982, 1984, 1986 and 1988 Donruss sets but featured active 2002 players. In addition, puzzle pieces featuring the late Ted Williams were randomly inserted into packs. The Donruss Originals product, containing the first 400 cards, was released in September, 2002. All 50 Rated Rookies and another 50 star player cards were short-printed with the 50 superstar SPs scattered throughout the set. The final 25 cards were randomly seeded into hobby and retail packs of 2002 Donruss The Rookies (of which was released in mid-December 2002) featuring a selection of prospects. Donruss had plans to release a second series of Originals in 2003 featuring all the odd years, but was cancelled. As usual, box will contain two autographs and a relic. For the first time since the product's 2011 introduction, there will be a base set. The 100 cards will be fractured into three Tiers. Each box will contain one base card or base parallel. 2023-24 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary is a 500-card set, released May 22nd, 2024. All cards are on chrome stock and are done in the style of the 1954 Topps set. Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield six Refractors, an X-Fractor, and an autograph. Although marketed as a "2023" product, for rookie card purposes, BCP considers this to be a 2024 set. 2024 Bowman is a 100-card set, supplemented by a 150-card Prospects set, released May 8th. Each Hobby box will yield one autograph and 18 inserts. Hobby Jumbo boxes will contain three autographs and 12 inserts. 2024 Topps Chrome Black is a 100-card set released April 17th. Each two-card box contains two autographed game-used cards serial-numbered to 25 copies or less with every fourth box yielding a one-of-one. We estimate that 1000 cases were produced. While this is more than double the previous year's product, the number of boxes in a case was cut in half from eight to four, leading to an overall slight production increase. 2023 Panini Elite Extra Edition was released March 27th, 2024. As usual, the product focuses on recent draft picks and prospects, and can be seen as Panini's answer to Bowman Draft. Each five-pack Hobby box will yield two game-used memorabilia cards and eight autographs. 2023-24 Topps Transcendent was released March 27th, 2024. Each box contains ten packs of four cards.
