2008 Topps Moments & Milestones

Description

2008 Topps Moments & Milestones is a 189-card set, released exclusively to Hobby outlets, in February 29th, 2008. The set consists of 144 veteran and retired players and 45 cards of 15 different rookies.

The set follows the same "mirrored" structure of the previous year's product. Each of the 144 veterans has multiple variations based on the player's statistical accomplishments. For example, Alex Rodriguez's card #1 has 518 different variations, one for each home run he had hit coming into the 2008 season. Like a mirror, each of the 518 cards is identical to each other, with the exception of a large numeral on the front side of the card. Each individual card is serial-numbered to 150 copies, but when all the different variations of each card are factored in, the production runs are much higher -- there are a total of 77,700 copies of the aforementioned card #1.

The final 45 cards make up a rookie subset. 15 selected 2008 rookies appear on three different cards, each serial-numbered to 150 copies. Unlike the veterans, the three cards of each player are sequentially-numbered separately (i.e. Jay Bruce's three cards are sequentially-numbered #145, #146, and #147 in the set) and there is only one version of each card.

Including all base set variations, a "Master Set" consists of 12,569 cards. However, a set is considered complete with only one variation of each card.

Each 18-pack box should yield two autographs, and each six-card pack contains a serial-numbered parallel.

NOTE: On the original sell-sheet the Black parallels were to have been serial-numbered to 33 copies. Some Blacks with serial numbers above 25 did make their way into packs. At least one Albert Pujols Black card serial-numbered "32/25" is known to exist. Additionally, the Red parallels for the Rookie Subset were printed multiple times. So while each is numbered 1/1, Topps estimated that 20 of each were produced in error.

Alex Rodriguez 500 HR Wall Relic

To commemorate Alex Rodriguez's 500th career home run, Topps issued a card with a piece of a stadium's outfield wall on the front. Unfortunately, the card does not mention anywhere, on either side, from what stadium the wall was taken from.
