Description
2000 E-X product was produced by Fleer/Skybox and was a 90-card set distributed exclusively to Hobby outlets and released in June, 2000. For the first time since the 1995 Emotion set, cards were produced on a single piece of regular cardstock and design was simpler than products from previous years that utilized multiple layers, depth, acetate, and die-cutting to create complex base set designs. Cards were printed on tri-colored holographic foil that was laminated to a piece of conventional paper cardstock. The foil fronts emphasized two team colors for each player and featured a silver holographic sliver running the middle of each card and behind the player's team logo. Card backs printed on a glossy white background.
The base set consisted of established player cards (1-60) and a 30-card "Prospects" subset (61-90) which were inserted at a rate of 1:12 packs and serial-numbered to 3499 -- the first time this brand had had serial-numbered base cards. Despite this, there were no true Rookie Cards in the set.
Once again, the numbering of the base set was subjectively arranged to have top current stars in the game featured first in the set, semi-stars next, minor-stars after, then the non-prospect young stars, and prospects featured last - this arrangement was key to the serial-numbering rationale for the Essential Credentials parallel sets.
Distribution
24 packs of 3 cards each (MSRP $3.99). Hobby Exclusive.

Parallels
Similar to the 1999 Essential Credentials set, there were once again were two types of Essential Credentials parallels: Now and Future. Once again, the specific number of Now and Future versions produced for each player varied based on the set they were in and the process used to determine the amount of Nows and Futures differed for cards in the Short Set (1-60) and the Prospects subset (61-90).
- For the Short set (1-60), each player had 61 serial-numbered Essential Credentials cards produced in total
- For the Prospects subset (61-90), each player had 31 serial-numbered Essential Credentials cards produced in total
For example, Scott Rolen is card #32 in the base set and thus is part of the Short set. Just like any other player in the Short set, Rolen has 61 total Essential Credentials cards that are serial-numbered. Specifically, Rolen had 32 Essential Credentials Nows (matching his card number in the set) and 29 Essential Credentials Futures (61 - 32 = 29) produced.
For example, Aaron McNeal is card #71 in the base set and thus is part of the Prospects set. Just like any other player in the Prospects set, McNeal has 31 total Essential Credentials cards that are serial-numbered. Specifically, McNeal had 11 Essential Credentials Nows (his card #71 is 11 spots after card #60, the first card in the Prospects subset) and 20 Essential Credentials Futures (31 - 11 = 20).
Essential Credentials Now:
For the Short set (1-60), the serial-numbering for the Essential Credentials Now parallel set mirrored numbering of the base set such that card #1 in the set was serial-numbered to 1, #2 was serial numbered to 2, etc. The arrangement of players in the base set placed the top current stars in the game first, semi-stars next, minor-stars after, and the young stars last - thus, the established players who were starring "Now" in the game featured the lowest serial-numbering in the Essential Credentials Now parallel for the Short Set.
For the Prospects set, (61-90), the serial numbering for the Essential Credentials Now parallel was determined by counting the number of spots after card #61 in the base set (i.e., the first card in the Prospects subset). For example, Josh Beckett is card #90 in the base set and thus is part of the Prospects subset; his card is 30 spots away from card number #61 and thus his Essential Credentials Now parallel is serial-numbered to 30.
Essential Credentials Now was printed on a glossy, opaque red acetate. For each player in this parallel, the team-colored holographic foil from the base design was replaced with a frosted, team-colored etched foil embedded in the acetate; this red acetate replaced silver holographic portion of the base card. "Essential Credentials Now" was printed on the back, along with the serial number.
Essential Credentials Future:
For the Short set (1-60), the serial-numbering for the Essential Credentials Future parallel was determined by subtracting the player's card number in the base set from 91. Again, due to the arrangement of players in the base set, the top current stars were featured first while the young stars were featured last - thus, the potential "Future", non-prospect stars of the game featured the lowest serial-numbering in the Essential Credentials Future parallel of the Short set.
For the Prospects set, (61-90), the serial numbering for the Essential Credentials Future parallel was determined subtracting the number of spots the card player's card number was away from card #61 in the base set (i.e., the first card in the Prospects subset). For example, Josh Beckett is card #90 in the base set and thus is part of the Prospects subset; his card is 30 spots away from card number #61 and thus his Essential Credentials Future parallel is serial-numbered to 1 (31 - 30 = 1). The potential "Future" prospects in the game featured the lowest serial-numbering in the Essential Credentials Future parallel of the Prospects subset.
Essential Credentials Now was printed on a glossy, opaque blue acetate. For each player in this parallel, the team-colored holographic foil from the base design was replaced with a frosted, team-colored etched foil embedded in the acetate; this blue acetate replaced silver holographic portion of the base card. "Essential Credentials Now" was printed on the back, along with the serial number.
For the sake of brevity, the individual serial-number production figures for each card are not listed here.

Autographs & Game-Used
Genuine Coverage
Genuine Coverage cards featured a postage stamp-sized swatch of game-used jersey which were still a novelty at a time. The set is sequentially-numbered based on the player's uniform jersey number.
The Mike Mussina and Heath Murray jersey cards did not pack out and only emerged after Fleer's bankruptcy in 2005. Murray is depicted as a Cincinnati Red, a team he went to Spring Training with in 2000, but never pitched in a regular season game for.
