Set of the Month
1993 Finest (officially "Topps Baseball's Finest") is a 199-card set printed on chromium stock and widely recognized as one of the most important issues of the 1990's. The Finest brand was Topps first attempt at the super-premium card market and competed with Fleer's Flair brand and Upper Deck's SP.. Production was announced at 4000, 12-box cases and cards were distributed exclusively through Hobby dealers in the fall of 1993. This was the first time in the history of The Hobby that a major manufacturer publicly released their production figures. Because production figures were released, it is believed that there are approximately 30,000 copies of each base card, 1500 of each Jumbo card, and 241 of each Refractor. Some people claimed that additional refractors were backdoored to several card shops and dealers in the San Diego area -- although this was never proven. Cards were issued in seven-card foil fin-wrapped packs that carried a suggested retail price of $3.99. The product was a smashing success upon release with pack prices immediately soaring well above the $20/pack point. The popularity of the product has continued to grow throughout the years as it's place in Hobby lore is now well solidified. Due to these boxes not having a logo printed on the plastic wrap, boxes can easily be opened and resealed. Many boxes with the original plastic wrap have a small round hole in the upper left corner on the front. Also, packs that contain a refractor can be easily identified as they are different than non-refractor packs as they were were printed and packed separately. Packs containing a refractor have a printing variation on the wrapper. 2022 Topps is a 660-card set released in two equal series of 330 cards. Series One was issued the week of February 9th. As usual, each 24-pack Hobby box will yield either an autograph or a Relic card while Hobby-exclusive jumbo boxes will yield an autograph, a game-used Relic, and a manufactured "relic." 2021 Bowman's Best was released December 31st and consists of a 100-card base set. Each pack will yield one Refractor parallel, and each 12-pack Hobby box will have four autographs, six inserts, and an Atomic Refractor. 2021 Bowman Draft is a 200-card set released December 31th. Each Hobby only Jumbo box will contain three autographs, 24 Refractors, and eleven inserts, while Super Jumbo boxes will yield five signatures and 40 Refractors. 2021 Topps Transcendent was released December 31st. Only 95 sets were produced. Each factory set, which is packaged in a wooden case contains the following:
2021 Panini Flawless is an 75-card set released December 24th. Each ten-card box will yield one jewel-encrusted base card or parallel serial-numbered to 20 copies or fewer, two game-used cards, and seven autographs. 2021 Panini Elite Extra Edition was released December 24th. As usual, the product focuses on recent draft picks and prospects, and can be seen as Panini's answer to Bowman Draft. Each base card is serial-numbered to 999 copies. Each five-pack Hobby box will yield two game-used memorabilia cards, eight autographs, and five Optic parallels. 2021 Topps Dynasty was released December 22nd. As usual, each box will contain an encased autographed patch card serial-numbered to ten or fewer. 2021 Bowman Inception is a 100-card set released exclusively to Hobby outlets December 17th. This is the first Bowman Inception set in five years. Each seven-card box will contain four base cards, two parallels, and an autograph. 2021 Panini Contenders is a 214-card set released December 17th. Each Hobby pack contains four inserts, three Optic parallels and an autograph. 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter Chrome is a chromium-stock partial-parallel of the first 300 cards in the 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter set, released December 15th. Just like the regular A&G product, each pack contains one mini-sized parallel. 2021 Topps Chrome Black is a 100-card set released December 8th. Despite the name, Chrome Black features an original design and is not a parallel brand. Each four-card box will yield two base cards, one Refractor parallel serial-numbered to 199 copies or fewer, and one autograph. We estimate that 71,300 boxes were produced and that each base card is limited, but not serial-numbered, to 357 copies -- an increase in production of over 55% compared to the previous year's product. 2021 Stadium Club Chrome was released November 17th. AS with the previous year's product, the first 300 cards are a full parallel of the 2021 Stadium Club base set, with an extra 100 cards tacked-on and exclusive to the Chrome product. Each fourteen-pack Hobby box will yield ten inserts, four Refractor parallels, and one autograph. 2021 National Treasures was released by Panini November 12th. As usual, every card is autographed and/or a memorabilia card serial-numbered to 99 copies or fewer. 2021 Panini Chronicles is a 50-card set released November 5th. As with previous iterations of this product, Chronicles features an original base set along with inserts based off other Panini brands. Each six-pack Hobby box will contain three autographs and a game-used memorabilia card. 2021 Topps Archives was released the week of November 5th. The base set is 300 cards featuring designs from throughout Topps's 70 years of baseball. For the first time since the brand's relaunch in 2012, the base set will not have any short-prints. Each 24-pack Hobby box will continue to yield two autographs. 2021 Triple Threads is a 100-card set in released October. Each seven-card Hobby pack will contain three base cards, two parallels serial-numbered to 299 copies or fewer, one Relic card serial-numbered to 36 copies or fewer, and either an autograph or autographed relic serial-numbered to 99 copies or fewer. 2021 Topps Update is a 330-card set released October 13th -- about a month earlier than usual. 2021 Topps Heritage Minor League is a 220-card set released October 27th. Each 18-pack Hobby box will yield two autographs. Because Minor League Baseball was not played in 2020, for the first time in this product's history, there are no Relic cards (manufactured or otherwise). |
