Description
1997 Pinnacle is a 200-card, single-series, set released in February 1997. There were plans for a second series, but a Series Two was replaced by 1997 New Pinnacle. Because of this, many star players appear in the "Clout" subset, but not on a basic player card.
Distribution
Hobby/Retail: 24 packs per box, 10 cards per pack (MSRP: $2.49).
Magazine: 24 packs per box, seven cards per pack (MSRP: $1.99)

Parallels
All 200 base cards are available in the following Dufex parallels.
- Museum Collection
- Artist's Proof
Following a similar structure to the 1996 Finest brand, the Artist's Proof parallel was "fractured" into three different groups of cards; 125 Bronze, 50 Silver and 25 Gold. The Gold cards are scarcest with an announced print run of only 300 (non serial-numbered) copies, and silver cards are scarcer than bronze cards. Each group of cards is easy to identify by their bold color-specific backgrounds (i.e. gold cards have gold backgrounds). All three groups share the same Artist's Proof logo on front.
Press Plates
As a way to promote the new Press Plate concept, the actual plates used to print 1997 Pinnacle Baseball were distributed within sealed cases of 1997 New Pinnacle. The card backs contain a number, of which dealers were supposed to find a matching number on their actual cases. The one lucky dealer that was shipped a matching case and card combination won a special prize package for their shop.
Eight press plates for each card (four front plates and four back plates) were included for all 200 base cards plus all 10 Shades inserts.
