1995 Select Certified

Description

1995 Select Certified is a 135-card, "super-premium" set, and was released exclusively to Hobby outlets only in November 1995. Due to the baseball strike of 1994-1995 Select slashed production of Certified by 34% of the regular Select set. Designed to compete with Topps' Finest brand, the cards are made with 24-point metallic stock and are double laminated.

Rookie Cards in this set include Bobby Higginson and Hideo Nomo. Card number 18 was never printed; Cal Ripken is featured on a special card numbered 2131, which is included in the complete set of 135.

Based on announced production figures, 63,210 20-pack wax boxes were produced resulting in each base card having 56,186 copies.

Distribution

20 packs per box, six cards per pack (MSRP: $3.99).

The packaging was complex relative to baseball cards. The 6 cards were wrapped in cellophane wrapper inside a piece of folded cardboard inside a mini cardboard box which itself was wrapped in plastic.

This eight-card set was issued to preview the '95 Select Certified set. Each card has the word "SAMPLE" printed diagonally on both sides. The Cal Ripken card is done in the style of the Gold Team insert.

Each card is available in a Mirror Gold parallel. Each card has a gold-colored holographic foil layer which, combined with the metallic cardstock of the fronts, gives it the appearance of a Finest Refractor.

This 20-card, all-Dufex, set was randomly inserted into packs and limited (but not serial-numbered) to 1975 copies. Each card has the statement "1 of 1,975" on the back.

A special parallel version was also produced as box toppers. The box toppers have a different Dufex pattern, and were seeded at the rate of 1:3.5/boxes. Each box topper card is limited (but not serial-numbered) to 903 copies.
