Description
2000 Upper Deck Ovation is an 89-card set released in March, 2000. Like the previous year's well-received Ovation set, each card is embossed to look and feel like a baseball. Ovation featured the first Upper Deck card of longtime UD spokesman Ken Griffey, Jr. as a Cincinnati Red -- albeit a photo of Griffey holding a Reds jersey at a post-trade press conference. The last 29 cards in the base set are short-printed.
Ryan Anderson card
Ryan "The Space Needle" Anderson (Card #70 in the Ovation set) was a highly-regarded pitching prospect in the Mariners organization who retired without ever throwing an inning in the Majors due to injuries. After the 1999 season, Anderson was placed on the Mariners 40-man roster allowing Upper Deck to produce a card of him. However before the 2000 season, Anderson was taken off of the 40-man roster forcing Upper Deck to pull his card from Ovation. Some Anderson cards did make their way into packs -- usually with a "gear" embossed on it. Anderson's card is not considered part of a complete set, and was not included in the Standing Ovation parallel.
Distribution
20 packs per box, five cards per pack (MSRP: $3.99). Hobby only.

A Piece of History Autographed
This set is an autographed partial-parallel with each card serial-numbered to the player's uniform number.
NOTE: Ken Griffey, Jr. was traded in the off-season from Seattle to Cincinnati, and while Upper Deck was able to depict him as a Red in the Ovation base set, they were not able to for the A Piece of History Autographed set. With his familiar uniform number 24 already retired by the Reds, Griffey was forced to change to #30. But because Griffey had already signed his allotment of cards for the Ovation product before his trade, he is still depicted as a Mariner in the A Piece of History Autographed set and it is still hand-numbered to only 24 copies.
- ARA Alex Rodriguez 3
- CRA Cal Ripken, Jr. 8
- DJA Derek Jeter 2
- KGA Ken Griffey, Jr. 24
Super Signatures

- Silver (machine-numbered to 100 copies)
- Gold (hand-numbered to 50 copies)
- Rainbow (hand-numbered to ten copies)
NOTE 1: All of Mike Piazza's cards packed out as redemptions which expired December 9th, 2000.
NOTE 2: There have been some unnumbered, authentically autographed versions of some players (e.g., Griffey) surface on the secondary market. These are not part of the pack-issued set as each Super Signatures card was intended to be serial-numbered in some way. These unnumbered versions likely were damage replacement copies and were not "base” autograph versions.
