Similar to the Tom Brady card in last year's product, a baseball card of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway was produced for this year's Bowman Draft. Like Brady, Elway was drafted by the Royals in the 18th round of the 1978 draft, but did not sign electing instead to attend Stanford on a football and baseball scholarship. In addition to his gridiron accomplishments, Elway was regarded as one of the best college baseball players in America, and was drafted again, this time by the Yankees, in the second round of the 1981 draft. Elway would go on to play one season in the Yankees' farm system, using it as leverage against the Baltimore Colts, who drafted him with the first overall pick in the 1983 NFL draft, then immediately traded him immediately to the Denver Broncos. This card is done in the style of what a 1981 Bowman Chrome Draft set would have looked like, if it had existed. Unfortunately, just like with last year's Brady card, Topps decided to short-print the shit out of it. It was also not on the provisional checklist issued by Topps, before Bowman Draft's release. This card is done in the style of what a 1981 Bowman Chrome Draft set would have looked like, if it had existed -- which looks suspiciously like 1985 Donruss. This is not the first time Elway has appeared on a baseball card. Pinnacle Brands issued an Elway card as part of their sponsorship of the 1998 All-Star Game's FanFest (which was in Denver that year). Topps also included Elway in the 2005 All-Time Fan Favorites set. This is not the first time Elway has appeared on a baseball card. Similar to the Tom Brady card in last year's product, a baseball card of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway was produced for this year's Bowman Draft. Like Brady, Elway was drafted by the Royals in the 18th round of the 1978, but did not sign electing instead to attend Stanford on a football and baseball scholarship. In addition to his gridiron accomplishments, Elway was regarded as one of the best college baseball players in America, and was drafted again, this time by the Yankees, in the second round of the 1981 draft.
