			It had been rumored for years that someone was attempting to corner the market on Albert Pujols' 2001 Donruss Elite rookie card (#184). This was confirmed in 2011 when [https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-cards/singles-1970-now-/2001-donruss-elite-albert-pujols-156-rookie-card-hoard-315-/a/718-99001.s# Heritage Auctions] offered a single lot containing '''315 copies''' of the card — nearly one‑third of the entire print run. This included eleven of the 100 Turn of the Century autographed parallels.

			The auction occurred right after Pujols left St. Louis for Anaheim — which assumes the accumulator/seller must have been a heartbroken Cardinals fan.

			The lot did not sell.

			In the years following the auction, a noticeable increase in both raw and graded copies entering the market suggests that the hoard was broken up and dispersed. Multiple small‑batch listings on eBay and through mid‑tier consigners (Just Collect, PWCC, and others) between 2012 and 2015, along with a gradual rise in both the PSA and BGS population totals, support the conclusion that the cards were crossed over into PSA/BGS holders and released in smaller quantities rather than resubmitted as a bulk lot.
