Because Class of 2001 was released in December 2001, Donruss-Playoff was able to include full 2001 season statistics on the back of each player's card. That, and the fact that Class of 2001 was released AFTER the first wave of 2002 baseball sets had been released (including [[2002 Ultra]] and [[2002 Topps\|2002 Topps Series One]]), caused some collectors question the legitimacy of Class of 2001 as a "2001" product. Since Class of 2001 was released in the 2001 calendar year and was issued before any of Donruss-Playoff's 2002 products, BCP and others continue to recognize Class of 2001 as a "2001" product for rookie card purposes.
