'''Dufex:''' An unique printing technique developed by the F. J. Warren company of Great Britian, and most famously employed in The Hobby by Pinnacle Brands. The process involves taking an aluminum lined paper sprayed with special ultraviolet transparent inks. After the ink dries, the cards are then hand engraved giving them their trademark "etched foil" design.

Pinnacle introduced the trading card world to Dufex in 1993 Select baseball with the "Select Stars," "Select Rookies," "Select Aces" and "Triple Crown Winners" inserts. When Pinnacle Brands went out of business in 1998, many thought we had seen the last of Dufex cards. However, Topps brought back the Dufex for the "Dreamcast" inserts in the second series of 2000 Finest baseball.

1994 Score Burger King Ripken is a nine-card set produced by Pinnacle Brands to honor Baltimore Orioles star shortstop, Cal Ripken, Jr. A pack of three cards were available for 25 cents with the purchase of a large soft drink at Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area Burger King restaurants. The cards were available from May 22 and ended June 19, or while supplies lasted.

Each three-card pack contained two base cards and one gold foil parallel. Ripken also autographed several hundred cards, which were awarded in a drawing held after the promotion to collectors who had mailed in entry forms which were also distributed at Baltimore/Washington area Burger King's.

1994 Church's Hometown Stars is a 28-card set (one card per MLB team) produced by Pinnacle Brands. Collectors who purchased a nine-piece family meal during the months of April and May, 1994 would get a pack of four cards for free. Collectors could also get a pack for $0.69 with any other fried chicken order.

Each pack contained three regular cards and one gold parallel card. Despite being produced by Pinnacle Brands (at the time a licensee), this set is not licensed by MLB Properties and all MLB trademarks are [[Airbrush | airbrushed.]] A portion of the proceeds from card sales went to Habitat for Humanity.

2006 was a year of great change in the baseball card landscape. [[Donruss]] had lost its license to produce Major League Baseball cards. [[Fleer]] had been lost to bankrupcy (but picked up by [[Upper Deck]]. And Major League Baseball imposed its "Not a Rookie Til We Say So" policy and created the RC logo. Thus Bowman (as well as Bowman Chrome, Bowman Sterling, Bowman Heritage and Bowman Draft) began including Prospect insert sets to be able to include the minor league players and prospects who could no longer be included in base sets.

==New Sets==

Fleer, Fleer Tradition, Ultra, Greats of the Game, Flair, and Flair Showcase were all new to Upper Deck's product line as part of the purchase of Fleer. Upper Deck also introduced Epic, Future Stars, Special F/X, and the ultra high-end Exquisite. Topps introduced the extremely popular Allen and Ginter as a new retro set, as well as Topps 52 (a new rookie set), Topps Co-Signers (previously only an insert set) and two new high end sets Triple Threads and Topps Sterling. Topps also produced the [[2006 Bowman Originals]] set, a single year release that proved to be a dud.
