These "cards" are the authentic aluminum plates that transfer the ink to the cardboard for each individual card back and front. Each plate displays an authentication seal on the back along with the personal signature of Pinnacle Chairman and CEO, Jerry Meyer. Each card has eight press plates for each of the four colors used in printing the front and the back. All cards from both the regular sets as well as the insert sets were inserted into packs. A collector who put together any combination of the four press plates from the same card front or back could return the plates to Pinnacle by August 22, 1997 and receive a "bounty" of $35,000. A sliding reward scale was imposed with a $30,000 bounty for plates received by August 29, 1997, $25,000 for those received by September 5, 1997, and $20,000 for those received after September 5 but before December 31, 1997.  It is unknown if anyone managed to collect the bounty.

Description

1997 New Pinnacle is a 200-card set released in June 1997. Rather than issue a second series of Pinnacle Baseball, an entirely new set, complete with new checklist, new design, and new inserts was created. Although largely a lackluster product, New Pinnacle was the first baseball card set to randomly seed into packs the actual plates used to product the cards.

Like they did in 1997 Pinnacle, the Artist's Proof parallel is fractured and features exclusive Dufex all-foil print technology in varying levels of scarcity. Unlike '97 Pinnacle, the colors used are Red, Blue and Green foil. The 125 Reds are scarce, 50 Blues are scarcer, and the 25 Greens represent the top stars with the scarcest printing. Each card is stamped with the "Artist's Proof" seal.

For brevity's sake, the designated color of each Artist's Proof in listed in the base set checklist with either a "R" "B" or "G."

Press Plates
