To celebrate the Fifth Anniversary of the reintroduction of Leaf Baseball, a reprint of Frank Thomas's landmark [[1990 Leaf]] rookie card was randomly inserted into Series One Hobby boxes at the rate of around one-per-box.  The card has a special "5th Anniversary" foil stamp and a 1994 copyright date differentiating it from the original.

This was the inaugural year for Leaf's most recognizable insert (the only insert set featured in Leaf every year from 1994 until the brand was discontinued after the bankruptcy of Pinnacle Brands in 1998).  This ten-card set featured the game's top statistical players.  Cards were printed on silver and team-colored foilboard and were exclusive to Series One packs.

This innovative (for the time) ten-card set featured a piece of [[Acetate|acetate]] embedded into the card that resembled a photographic slide.  Cards #1-5 were randomly inserted into Series One packs and have a blue and black card "frame" while cards #6-10 were inserted into Series Two packs and have a white "frame".
 +
 +
'''NOTE:''' There are copies of Slideshow cards that feature a backwards orientation of the acetate/slide/film on the card front.  For example, a Ken Griffey, Jr. Slideshow card is supposed to feature a slide showing his left-handed batting swing; however, there are Slideshow card versions with the slide incorrectly placed backwards and display him with a right-handed batting swing on the cardfront.  Copies of these reverse negatives exist for some but not all players and the number of reverse negatives that escaped quality control is unknown.

Similar to its sister-product Donruss's Elite inserts, Gold Stars was the feature insert in 1994 Leaf and included fifteen of the top players in the game at the time.  Leaf's first ever serial-numbered insert, these cards were printed on holographic foil against a green marble background and all numbered to 10,000 copies.  Cards #1-8 were in Series One and cards #9-15 were in Series Two.

This 30-card set doubled as a Series Two insert set and a contest: It featured 14 players and a "Wild Card" from each League that were among the 1994 AL & NL MVP candidates.  If the player appearing on the card was named League MVP, the card could be redeemed for a 5" x 7" Frank Thomas card serial-numbered to 20,000 (see above) and would then be entered into a drawing for one of 5000 MVP Contenders Gold Collection sets.  If none of the 14 featured players in the set were named MVP, then the "Wild Card" would be declared the winner.
 +
 +
The pack-issued "Silver Collection" contest cards feature the National League or American League logo on the card front's background with silver foil accents on the corners.  Card backs contained all rules and redemption information, and stated the "1 of 10,000" print run -- although none of the Silver cards were sequentially-numbered or serial-numbered.
 +
 +
The contest-winning "Gold Collection" cards were only available by redeeming one of the two winning Silver Collection cards, and getting lucky in the drawing.  Each Gold Collection set came with a header card that was serial-numbered to 5000; however, none of the other cards were numbered.  The fronts are similar to the pack-inserted Silver cards, but feature gold foil accents.  The card backs are different, as the contest information and legalese was replaced with a player bio and a card number.  Curiously, the two Bonus Cards were also included in the Gold Set; However, both have blank backs.
 +
 +
Despite the strike-truncated season, Frank Thomas and Jeff Bagwell were awarded the MVP in their respective Leagues, and collectors had until January 19th, 1995 to redeem their winners.  The Frank Thomas Jumbo cards and Gold Collection sets started fulfillment that Spring.  In addition, Donruss returned each winning Silver Collection Thomas and Bagwell card with a hole punched through it, to prevent repeat redemptions.

Description

1994 Leaf was a 440-card set released in two series of 220 cards. An oversized (5" X 7") rendition of Frank Thomas's 1994 Leaf base card (#400) was given to each winning MVP Contenders game card (see below). Each Frank Thomas Jumbo is serial-numbered to 20,000 copies.

To celebrate the Fifth Anniversary of the reintroduction of Leaf Baseball, a reprint of Frank Thomas's landmark 1990 Leaf rookie card was randomly inserted into Series One Hobby boxes at the rate of around one-per-box. The card has a special "5th Anniversary" foil stamp and a 1994 copyright date differentiating it from the original.

The annual Gold Rookies insert (which dated back to the 1991 Leaf set) is 20-cards featuring all the top young players and rookies. Gold Rookies were printed on gold foiloard and cards #1-10 cards were randomly inserted into Series One packs (1:18 packs) while cards #11-20 were randomly inserted into Series Two packs (1:12 packs)

This innovative (for the time) ten-card set featured a piece of acetate embedded into the card that resembled a photographic slide. Cards #1-5 were randomly inserted into Series One packs and have a blue and black card "frame" while cards #6-10 were inserted into Series Two packs and have a white "frame".

NOTE: There are copies of Slideshow cards that feature a backwards orientation of the acetate/slide/film on the card front.
