Description
1994 Donruss is a 660-card set released in two series of 330 cards. For 1994, Donruss relaunched their flagship brand as a "premium" level brand, along the lines of Topps' Stadium Club, Fleer Ultra, Upper Deck, and their own Leaf Set. The base set was printed on a glossy card stock with gold foil stamping and a full-bleed, borderless, design.
Leaf also announced a drastic cut in production. Only 17,500 cases of each series were printed.

Promos
This 10-card set was issued to promote the 1994 Donruss set. The player's 1992 stats appear within ghosted stripes near the bottom. The disclaimer "Promotional Sample" is printed diagonally across both sides of the cards.
Reportedly each of Leaf/Donruss' 3000+ Hobby accounts received one 11-card pack that contained the full 10-card set plus one of the two Special Edition cards with their 1994 Donruss order form. Moreover, Leaf's 42 retail broker accounts also received anywhere from five to ten 11-card promo packs for their presentations. From this information, it appears that approximately 3500 11-card promo packs were printed.
Half the promo packs received the Barry Bonds Special Edition parallel, the other half a Frank Thomas SE.

Parallels
Special Edition
For the first time, Donruss included a parallel set. Special Edition is a 100-card partial parallel featuring holographic gold foil on both sides of the card. The first 50 cards correspond to cards 1-50 in the first series, while the second 50 cards correspond to cards 331-380 in the second series. The holographic foil on the back of the card can make reading the card's number very difficult.
Inserts
Diamond Kings
The Diamond Kings is a 30-card set with 15 cards inserted into each series. For the first time since 1984, the Diamond Kings had a different design, and from this point forward would have a new design every year. Cards #DK1-#DK14 and #DK29 (a "King of Kings" card of Dave Winfield) were inserted in Series One packs, whole #DK15-#DK28 and #DK30 (a self-portrait of Diamond Kings artist Dick Perez, which also serves as the set's checkilst) were in Series Two.
Each retail waxbox came packaged with a 5" X 7" oversized Diamond King as a box topper, which is serial-numbered to 10,000 copies.

Elite
The fourth edition of the Elite inserts are a 12-card set issued in two series of six. Using a continued numbering system from previous years, cards #37-#42 were randomly inserted in first series foil packs with cards #43-#48 a second series offering. Only 10,000 copies of each card were produced.
Because of the drastic production cut, it was noticeably easier to pull an Elite insert than in year's past.
