Description

The 1992 Fleer baseball set consists of 720 cards. The cards are ordered by player alphabetically within each team, for each league with AL preceding NL. Subsets include: Major League Prospects (652-680), Record Setters (681-687), League Leaders (688-697), Super Star Specials (698-707), Pro Visions (708-713) and seven checklists (714-720).

In an effort to "keep up with the Joneses," Fleer dramatically improved the quality of the cards using metallic inks on both sides of the card and a smoother card stock. The design is a reminder of the "teal craze" that swept pro sport's in the early-90s.

    Rookie Sensations

Rookie Sensations is a 20-card insert set exclusive to 35-card jumbo packs. The cards were extremely popular upon release resulting in packs selling for levels far above suggested retail levels, and was one of the sets that kicked off the "Insert Mania" that drove The Hobby in the early-to-mid 1990s.

Through a mail-in offer for ten Fleer baseball card wrappers and $1.00 for postage and handling, Fleer offered an uncut 8 1/2" by 11" numbered promo sheet picturing ten of the 20-card set on each side in a reduced-size front-only format. The offer indicated an expiration date of July 31, 1992, or whenever the production quantity of 250,000 sheets was exhausted. In addition to the promo sheet, according to collectorempire.com, some 1992 Fleer cards, including a Frank Thomas Rookie Sensation, were stolen before the foil was applied.
